A late nineteenth century pressed tin decoy of a Grey plover in summer plumage.

First patented in 1874, these hollow decoys were designed to fold open on a simple wire hinge, and then stack like clamshells for easy transportation in the field.

Production ceased circa 1900, when laws giving greater protection to shorebirds were passed.

10" L x 18" H including the stand.
